Ages are calculated on Sep 1, 2026. "Born in" is the player's country of birth, which is not always their citizenship or the country they play for internationally.

The generator pulls a random player from the full 550-player 2026-27 NBA roster — starters and deep bench alike — and shows you their name, team, position, height, and jersey number. Hit the button, press R, or share a link to a specific result with a teammate.

People use it to settle pick-up-game drafts, run trivia nights, find a drawing prompt, or drill player recognition. The five filters let you narrow the pool before you roll, so you can land on exactly the kind of player you need.

What the filters actually change

You can filter by team (all 30 are represented), conference, position, or height band — under 6'3", 6'3"–6'7", 6'8"–6'11", or 7'0" and up. A Stars only toggle trims the pool to household names if you want results a casual fan will recognize. Stack filters to get, say, a tall Western Conference center, or leave everything open and let the full roster surprise you.

How deep the roster goes

The pool spans guards, forwards, and centers across all 30 teams, so two-way players and end-of-bench names are just as likely to surface as rotation staples. The tallest player in the pool is Jamarion Sharp at 7'5"; the shortest is Braden Smith at 5'10". The oldest is LeBron James at 41; the youngest is Cameron Boozer at 19. That range means the generator is a genuine test of NBA roster knowledge, not just a highlight-reel name machine.

Sharing and using a result

Once a player appears, three options follow: launch the guessing game with only that player, copy a shareable link, or re-roll immediately with R. The shareable link is handy for sending a friend a specific challenge without revealing the answer up front.

The most random NBA players right now

"Most random NBA player" usually means a name that makes people squint — a two-way contract, a 10-day deal, the twelfth man who only appears in garbage time. There are 226 players on a roster this season who fall into our deepest bracket, meaning the roster data gives them no star signal at all. Here are ten of them:

The generator above pulls from all 550 players by default, deep bench included. Tick Stars only if you'd rather it stuck to names everyone at the table will recognise.

Frequently asked questions

How many NBA players are in the random generator?
The generator draws from 550 players on the 2026-27 NBA roster, last updated 2026-08-31.
Can I filter the random player by position?
Yes. The position filter lets you restrict results to guards, forwards, or centers before you roll.
What does the Stars only filter do?
It limits the pool to household names, so every result is a player a casual fan is likely to recognize.
How do I share a random player result with a friend?
Use the Copy link button after a player appears. It generates a shareable URL that opens the same player for anyone who clicks it.
